The Power Of Business Logo

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

When starting a business there are many things to think about but sometimes even the smaller things that are just as important as the bigger things slip our mind, What is the one thing when you see the companies that appear in the world today, in the form of billboards, bus ads, tv advertising, giant posters, flyers, leaflets and even brochures. That the logo of the company. Every successful company and there is a very important reason behind this. Branding and brand association must do with logos.

What will Coca Cola be without its signature cursive along the side of its many bottles and cans? What will Nike be without its tick? Adidas without its 3 stripes? I think you are starting to get my drift. A company without a logo is like a person without its arms, it cannot reach out and grab the consumer with its visual stimulation. Logo and branding work together to let your customer knows and recongise you in the market, what is it that you do and what is the nature of the product you are selling.

Most consumers in a recent poll revealed that they barely remember the words of most product packaging but things like colour and a creative logo really stand out. Even a mascot can be considered to a company’s logo – something companies like Kellogg’s, McDonalds and KFC use to brand their products. Another reason is that logos are a self contained universe of corporate meaning itself and this is something that the consumer always takes away from when a company does anything that involves changing brand strategy or introducing corporate social responsibility.

If we are presented with the Body Shop logo we know instantly it stands for the all natural, the untampered, a company aligned with the green movement and one that tried to reduce poverty in difficult parts of the world. That’s what I means about the power of branding and logo recognition.Ok let me give you another example.

Presenting anyone with the Apple logo and what keywords do they come up with? Young, creative, dynamic  – a company in the leading technology of design and consumer sound -  a company that pushes the boundaries with touch technology. No matter how much you try to educate anyone about your product; a logo is a universe in its own – an educator and an informer. Another example – Adidas. Street, urban youth, fashionable, sporty. Nike – pure sports enthusiast, training, hard core. Such examples tell you how important a business logo is in any corporate strategy that you decide to execute.

This is something that will appear on your name cards, all your EDM’s, marketing collaterals, it will represent your company and educate consumers in your brand, your direction and will be the trigger that lets them know you are what they should be looking for when they have a specific consumer need to fulfil. This is the power of a business logo – don’t ignore it.

Corporate Awards, Are You Making Full Use Of Them?

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Company awards are given to employees of a company for a variety of reasons.  Sometimes people gain awards for hitting particular milestones in their career with the company, like 10 years and 20 years of service.  Other times companies give awards for reaching goals or meeting a certain criteria.  Often at the completion of a large project, after it has successfully come to fruition, a company might reward the employees responsible for the project.  Numerous companies still give awards as holiday incentives, though this practice is decreasing with the economy.

Company awards are often some form of jewelry to commend an employee for good service, like a tie tack or a pin.  An employee observing a 20th anniversary with the company might receive a fine watch, whereas someone celebrating just 5 years receives a desk set.  Holiday bonuses might include a party and some type of present or a ham or turkey.  Many companies are giving gift cards now instead of passing out actual food products.  And then there are still a select few company incentives that come in the fashion of cold, hard cash (or at least a incentive on the paycheck).

While it is correct that worker awards can be a positive factor in furthering a company’s performance, a much overlooked and similar method is to obtain awards recognizing the (whole) company itself. You’ll find specialized details on this subject at the awards list site. Business recognition awards – in which an independent body recognizes your company as the best in it’s sector or in a particular function like innovation or employee satisfaction – can be a large marketing boon. These kind of awards can obtain favourable PR and news coverage and attract better employees. Savvy companies deliberately target awards in their sector each year as part of their formal marketing plan. Company awards are definitely worth learning about.
