Insurance companies receive higher premiums from companies simply because the employee pays a portion of the premium and the rest is paid by the employer. Large corporations may employ several thousand employees, therefore the insurance company will receive high premiums each month. The pool of dentists may be 90,000 strong. When dentists join this network they agree to provide discounted benefits to the employees on the plan. The discount can be as much as 35%. The dentists are continuously monitored thereby ensuring all patients receive the same quality of care.
Employer dental benefit plans are attractive to an employee due to the laws surrounding them. There are few and sometimes no laws regulating dental discount plans meaning that individuals may be scammed by unscrupulous dental discount plans that offer affordable dental care but do not deliver. When an employee is under the umbrella of a company dental insurance program they can rest assured that the company their dental insurance is being handled through is regulated under the authority of the law.
